Scandal point true to its name was the place where the Maharaja of Patiala eloped with the then British Viceroys daughter. This spot also adorns a statue of Lala Lajpat Rai, the legendary Indian freedom fighter.

The Gaiety Theater, a renowned landmark of Shimla established in 1877, It was designed by the prominent architect Mr. Henry Irwin, built in the exquisite gothic architecture. Sanat Art Gallery


A hidden gem of Shimla, the Sanat art foundation is home to an incredible 1500+ works of art, which includes paintings, sculptures and much more.

Works by Shree Sanat Chatterjee, who was the last living pioneer of the Bengal school of art along with his son Him Chatterjee, head of the fine arts department of Himachal University, adorn the walls of the gallery. A must visit for everyone.

Himachal state Museum


Housed in an old Victorian mansion,”Invererm” which was later altered to fit the museum.

It is open from Tuesday-Sunday 9am-5pm and is classified into 5 galleries, namely wall painting gallery, pre historic gallery, archeology galley, wood carving gallery and numismatic gallery.

Enormous collections of paintings, coins, jewels, handicrafts etc are seen in the gallery.

Annadale


Annadale is an Army area at the bottom of the valley which includes a golf course, a helipad, a cactus museum as well as an Army heritage museum displaying arms, historical weapons, arts and many war memorial objects.

Pre independence, Annadale was 1 st used by the East India Company and then the British Raj for events including gymkhana, polo and cricket matched among many more.

Jakhoo Temple


Jakhoo temple rests on Shimla’s highest peak at about 2455 meters above sea level. Legend has it that Lord Hanuman stopped on this hilltop on his was to find the Sanjeevni booti to resuscitate Laxmana.

Hence this temple is dedicated to lord Hanuman with a 108 foot statue of him that is visible from all across Shimla. You can take a cable car or hire a horse from the ridge to take you to the temple.

The Himalayan bird park


Located in close proximity to the Viceregal lodge at about 2213 meters above sea level the Himalayan bird park is surrounded by deodar, oak, pine and rhododendron trees.

It is a great place for bird lovers as well as children with a considerable collection of peacocks, pheasant’s, monals and many more. It is open for visitors between March and September.

The Ice Skating rink


The ice skating rink in Shimla is the only natural ice skating rink in India and is one of the oldest outdoor rinks in Asia.

Ice skating sessions are conducted morning and evening, everyday in the winter months between December and beginning March.

The Dorje Dark Monastery


The mesmerizing Dorje Dark monastery was originally one of the “six Mother” monasteries in Tibet, which was destroyed by the Chinese in the Battle of Chamdo in 1950 and was later rebuilt in Shimla in 1984 to replace the original.

The monastery is run by Tibetan exiles and displays the relevance of the Tibetan culture in the state.
